Types of Care
We offer three types or stages of chiropractic care. How long you benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you but it is recommended that you continue until full healing of your muscles and soft tissues has occurred. This makes a relapse much less likely.
- Pain Relief: Treatment to reduce joint stiffness, muscle spasm, nerve irritation and inflammation all help to relieve your pain. Initially treatment is once or twice per week until your pain is significantly better. Ice packs maybe suggested in order to reduce inflammation and stretching exercises recommended to help improve mobility.
- Rehabilitation Care: When your pain is mostly relieved our next goal is to restore strength and coordination to muscles and to maintain mobility in the joints. This should help you return to your normal activities without the pain returning. Treatments are now less frequent, often every 2-4 weeks. Different exercises and activities are recommended to strengthen weakened areas. Normally your progress is less dramatic through this phase and it is at this stage that our patients feel better and often wonder if there is any more benefit to the treatment. However if you continue until the full healing of your muscles and soft tissues has occurred, a relapse is much less likely.
- Maintenance Care: The aim is to keep the good movement, strength and coordination that you have achieved. Through check-ups every 2-6 months any changes in your muscles and joints can be detected and corrected before you start to experience pain and discomfort. We think prevention is better than cure.
To help us achieve the above goals we give ergonomic advice, exercises to be done at home but also offer remedial/sports massage, back strengthening courses and one-to-one core stability classes.
