First visit

When you visit the Bearsden Chiropractic Clinic for the first time, you will be asked some questions about you, your health and your reasons for seeking chiropractic help.

You will be asked for a great deal of information, not just about your pain or complaint that may have brought you, but about your past health history. Some of the questions may appear irrelevant, but they are extremely important to your chiropractor. To ensure that chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition he/she will need to establish an overall health picture.

If chiropractic appears not to be suitable for you, you will be referred to your GP or relevant specialist.

Your details are confidential. No one else will be allowed to see your notes without your permission.

Bearsden Chiropractic

Once the case history is complete the chiropractor will do a thorough physical examination to diagnose what is causing the pain or discomfort. He/she will concentrate on the joints, nerves and muscles of your body, but it may also be necessary to examine other areas, such as lungs, heart and abdomen.
Based on the findings the chiropractor will decide whether any additional investigations are necessary before treatment can begin. These may include X-rays, MRI and CT scans and urine or blood tests. In some cases it may be necessary to contact you GP, which your chiropractor will do with your permission.

Gowns are made available for the examination, as well as any following treatments.

Before treatment starts your chiropractor will explain, in simple language, what is wrong with you and what can be done about it.
If at all possible we do the first treatment during your first visit in order to alleviate you of any pain that you might be in.
Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe, specific adjustments, done by hand, to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly. Various soft tissue techniques are used to relieve associated muscle spasm.

You will also be advised on rehabilitation exercises, activities to avoid, changes to your lifestyle or diet that may be beneficial, so that you can help yourself.
A part of getting better is up to you, so please follow any instructions and advice carefully.
